TAIKHAR ROCK

Taikhar Chuluu (Rock Taikhar) A legendary, unique rock formation well known and respected by Mongolians. This 18 meter high granite rock sits by itself on the banks of Ih Tamir river, with no other formations or rocks nearby. The legend has it that a giant monster snake once surfaced in the area, killing and terrorizing the good people of the region. A good hearted, champion wrestler Bukhbilegt carried this big rock from Mt. Bulgan and placed it shut on the well where the snake was resting, bringing peace to the people.
CHULUUT RIVER AND VALLEY
Distance from Tsetserleg: 30 km
Chuluut Gol (Rocky River), 22 km north from the the aimag center, Tsetserleg city. The 40-60 meter high river ravine that was formed by melting hot lava erupting out of volcano Khorgo and ripping through this valley some 9 thousand years ago. It is a popular fishing destination and a magnificent sight to witness.

Khorgo volcano. (180 km from Tsetserleg city) A dormant volcano, located adjacent to Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur, is considered to be one of the youngest volcanos in the world. Khorgo is comparable to Mt Fuji, successfully popularized by the Japanese.
